It’s been an adventurous few weeks since I posted last.
With regards to writing, my wife took three days to give The Tree House a final pass, searching for any typos or inconsistencies that might have been missed in edits, or by my beta readers. This was the last step before I dive into laying out the book in InDesign.
However, once she finished the manuscript, an uninvited guest crashed the party – COVID. It hit me first, reducing me to an infant capable of nothing more than naps, soup, and streaming episodes on Mythbusters. None of it was life-threatening, but it was a level of sick I hadn’t experienced since I was a child with Scarlet Fever. At that point, I lost all thought of writing, all I wanted to do was sleep until I felt better.
It took a full week before I felt some semblance of my humanity return.
By the time I could successfully fend for myself, my wife got sick. Honestly, the worst part of it all was the isolation.
This weekend, I finally returned to the book, translating all of the changes from the final pass hard copy to the digital file. I’m sure I could spend another six months pouring through the pages tweaking things, but at some point I have to call it done. Ten years is a long time to wait for your dreams to come to fruition. After three full edits, notes and changes from three beta readers, and a final pass, I’m calling The Tree House done. It’s ready to be cemented into print files for hard cover, paperback, and ebook.
Another adventure, another threshold to cross on the way to publication. Stay tuned.
